Senior Business Development Manager (MCB)

As a part of Visit Victoria, Melbourne Convention Bureau (MCB) leads the acquisition and delivery of national and global business events for Melbourne and regional Victoria. This is achieved through partnering with the Victorian State Government, City of Melbourne, Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, and over 120 private enterprise partners. MCB has more than 50 years of experience in securing business events for Melbourne with local and global teams dedicated to business development, bidding and sales, convention servicing, marketing, and partnerships.

About the role

Reporting into the Director of Business Development and Stakeholder Engagement, the successful candidate will be responsible for the management of a portfolio of national and international event bidding opportunities focusing predominantly on the progression of opportunities aligned to stakeholder investment areas and city need periods.
 
Some key accountabilities include:

  • Responsible for key account management of national/international association conference bidding opportunities, focusing on securing local host organisations and the development of sector strategies.
  • Develop and sustain relationships with Professional Conference Organisers, including MCB’s partners.
  • Lead and handle your portfolio in agreement with MCB Business Development priorities and strategies.
  • Performance will be monitored against individual and organisational KPIs and business unit plans.
  • Within your assigned portfolio, build professional relationships with key clients in the sectors managed.
  • Perform timely data management for all assigned accounts/leads/contacts/traces in the CRM system.
  • Liaise with the Club Melbourne Ambassador Program to develop lead opportunities.
  • Network and connect with key stakeholders relating to the sectors under management.

Skills & Experience

To be considered for this role, you will ideally have tertiary qualifications and previous significant experience within a sales or business development role alongside familiarity with the events, associations, or academic industry. You will have experience in developing long standing relationships across various external clients, partners, and internal stakeholders.  You will be a motivated, high achieving sales professional who has a strong drive for results and a desire to support and grow the business events industry in Melbourne and Victoria, supporting with the economic and business bounce back post COVID.
