Victoria’s visitor economy reaches record high
Spending from visitors has hit new heights – reaching a record $46.7 billion in the 12 months ending December 2025.
The latest data from Tourism Research Australia’s Domestic Tourism Statistics and International Visitor Survey also shows Victoria cementing its position as the nation’s second largest visitor economy.
Melbourne kept its title as the top destination for overnight interstate leisure travellers – with 3.5 million visitors staying a total of 13 million nights in the city and spending $5.9 billion.
International visitor expenditure also grew at seven per cent year-on-year, with overseas visitors spending $9.7 billion across the state – including a new all-time high of $840 million spent by international visitors in regional Victoria.
Visit Victoria is supporting dispersal through our Regional Visibility Program, which is designed to promote regional Victoria as the ideal short-break destination for Melburnians through media and broadcast partnerships, and with a focus on supporting bushfire-affected regions.
As part of the program, Visit Victoria took 3AW to Castlemaine last week, along with the Today Show to Lorne, Sorrento, Phillip Island, Inverloch – showcasing the best of Victoria to a national audience.
