About this Position

Are you a strong communicator with an understanding of government process? Are you confident building relationships with senior stakeholders and managing multiple priorities at once? Can you write for a range of audiences including government, corporate, media and consumers? If so, we'd love to hear from you!

The Government and Corporate Relations Executive sits in Corporate Relations business unit that delivers coordinated communications and stakeholder engagement that increases awareness of Victoria as a destination and improves the reputations of Visit Victoria – both internally and externally.  You'll be part of a team that manages government relations and ministerial communications, media and public relations, issues management, and industry and internal communications.

Victoria is home to some of the country's best tourism and event experiences and we have a rare opportunity to join the organisation responsible for driving visitor demand and promoting the state. 

The role

  • Support the Head of Media & Communications and Manager, Communications & Corporate Relations in preparing and delivering high quality communications materials on behalf of Visit Victoria and Minister’s office.
  • Nurture key media relationships and deliver media opportunities for the Minister and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to raise awareness of portfolio activity and achievements. 
  • Prepare media responses, speaking notes, event brief and media releases, and manage distribution (including pitching) where appropriate.
  • Monitor and analyse media coverage to provide key insights and enable Visit Victoria to adapt and improve strategy. 
  • Build and maintain highly-effective relationships with Ministerial media advisers and government contacts. 
  • Support in the development of internal and external communications including emails, presentations the corporate website and intranet. 
  • Support public relations strategies and activities to assist the promotion of the business’ outstanding and innovative marketing campaigns. 

About you 

The successful applicant will be open to work out of hours, this may involve evening or weekend work including occasional overnight travel

  • You will have demonstrated experience working with government stakeholders and working with media.
  • You have demonstrated creative problem-solving skills, sound initiative, judgement, and political acumen. 
  • You have a passion for events and tourism.
