Manager, Event Acquisitions

About the Role

Due to an internal promotion a unique opportunity has been presented in our Event Acquisitions Team. 

The Manager, Event Acquisitions is a challenging and dynamic role requiring project management of key event acquisitions. This role is responsible for managing projects to attract, develop and secure major events from the sporting and creative industries, as well as other special events, which assist in creating a world class major events calendar to grow Victoria's visitor economy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify and assess the viability of event opportunities through high level relationships with senior stakeholders in the industry, with the Head of Event Acquisition.
  • Undertake and prepare research and analysis, economic impact assessments, briefing documents, board papers and reports on complex issues, providing professional advice to senior management on event acquisitions and industry initiatives.
  • Project management responsibility for priority acquisition projects.
  • Lead business cases for Visit Victoria and ultimately Government consideration and approval, including commissioning of research, detailed event analysis, bid submissions and presentations, leveraging sponsorship and advising on media and marketing strategies and reviewing budgets, marketing and event operation plans.
  • Lead the bid process for major events including high level negotiation with senior stakeholders and development of bid strategies and supporting collateral, with the Head of Event Acquisitions.
  • Lead contract negotiations and procurement processes for Major Events to ensure acquisitions deliver the best value for Victoria. Assess the financial viability of bids, by developing an understanding of an event's budget and evaluate the projected return of investment to the State, with the Head of Event Acquisition.
  • Maintain strong industry connection and relationships to identify trends, opportunities, and position Victoria as an industry leader. Maintain strong stakeholder relationships throughout the life cycle of an event to maximise value for Victoria and to identify possible new opportunities to build a world class annual major events calendar.
  • Work collaboratively across the Major Events business unit and Visit Victoria project teams to deliver positive outcomes.

Your Experience

  • A relevant tertiary degree in Business, event management, project management or any other relevant field would be well regarded.
  • Expert industry knowledge of major events in the Sports and/or Creative sector, with existing senior level stakeholder relationships in this industry.
  • Proven strategic and project management skills in major events and related projects within the sporting and/or creative sector.
  • Demonstrated high level verbal communication skills including experience in negotiating with General Managers, Chief Executive Officers, board level stakeholders and Government bodies.
  • Experience in the development of robust and comprehensive business cases for significant funding.
  • Strong written communications skills, with demonstrated experience in creating bids, tenders, board paper, strategic documents and contracts.
  • Relevant experience in one or more aspects of event management, ideally within sponsorship, commercial, sales, marketing, communications, operations, or bids & tenders.
