Reporting to the Associate Director of Sales & Marketing – Official Visitor Products, the Design Manager OVP is responsible for the design and execution of Melbourne’s Official Visitor Product suite, consisting of two guides printed seasonally, one in English and one in Chinese, and an annual visitor map.
Newly housed at Visit Victoria, the Official Visitor Products are an evolving project currently undergoing a redesign and relaunch for Autumn 2020.
The Design Manager will work in partnership with various external stakeholders including printers, tourism operators, PTV, the City of Melbourne and key municipalities within the Greater Melbourne region, and other key industry bodies as determined from time to time.
Lead and manage the design and production of the official visitor products each season within agreed timelines.
Contribute towards the strategic direction of the visitor products.
Provide authoritative advice on design and production management to project teams, and relevant internal and external stakeholders demonstrating a strong understanding of brand and design thinking.
Advanced design skills in Adobe Creative Suite CC, InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and Adobe Acrobat.
Highly knowledgeable in publication layout and preparation of print ready files.
A creative thinker with high attention to detail and production accuracy.
External stakeholder management including printers, cartographers and translators.
Highly experienced in developing and managing multiple brands.
Be an active collaborative member of the Melbourne Convention Bureau and Visit Victoria.
Key Selection Criteria
Demonstrable experience in the design and production of consumer collateral with a focus on high-end publication design.
Well-developed project management skills with demonstrated ability to facilitate decision making and negotiate agreements in a complex and high-pressure environment.
Time management and budget management experience.
Well-developed interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills with the proven ability to present concepts and designs.
Experienced in leading and developing printed publications.
Leadership and project management skills, with the ability to influence and provide guidance to others.
Proven knowledge of publication layout and preparation of print ready files.
Experience in proof reading and copywriting.
Demonstrated passion for Melbourne as a tourism destination.
