Business Development Manager Aboriginal Tourism

About the Role

Based in Melbourne you will bring your skills in product development, business mentoring and marketing development to take Aboriginal products and experiences to market. Your excellent stakeholder management skills will help to drive an increase in Victoria’s Aboriginal experiences across visitor markets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify current and emerging issues relating to Aboriginal tourism businesses and assist in the development of appropriate strategic responses.
  • Undertake business mentoring designed to assist new and established Aboriginal tourism businesses and provide direction regarding access to skills development programs.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders on the development and implementation of marketing campaigns and activities to promote Aboriginal tourism to key domestic and international markets. 
  • Liaise with the Aboriginal tourism industry collectively and seek their input and advice on matters affecting the industry.
  • Work with external consultants and contractors providing business mentoring support to Victoria’s Aboriginal businesses and provide guidance on Aboriginal business development needs. 
  • Review and evaluate the delivery and impact of programs and campaigns and provide advice and recommendations to senior management, internal and external stakeholders on program improvements. 
  • Manage the implementation of the Victorian Aboriginal Business Strategy including reporting regularly to the Small Business Team at the Aboriginal Economic Development Branch on project milestones and delivery of Visit Victoria’s projects.

Your Experience

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Victorian Aboriginal tourism businesses, product and experiences.
  • A demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the Aboriginal culture, including community and society and the issues affecting it; as well as an ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal people.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in assisting businesses to develop and promote their product in a range of markets.
  • High level project management expertise and a proven record of achievement in managing major projects, external contractors, and consultants. 
  • Well-developed creative, conceptual, and analytical skills and a proven ability to implement and manage business plans and marketing activities, preferably in the tourism industry. 
  • High level, written and verbal communication, public speaking, relationship, negotiation and interpersonal skills, and proven ability to undertake high level communication and negotiations with representatives at all levels within the tourism sector and key stakeholders. 
  • Demonstrated experience as a highly motivated, proactive individual that can operate with minimal supervision. 
  • A relevant tertiary degree would be well regarded

  • This position has a requirement to work out of hours, and it will involve evening or weekend work including occasional overnight travel.
