Business Development Executive

About the role

We have a brand new opportunity for a passionate Business Development Executive to join the Melbourne Convention Bureau (MCB). 

You will be responsible for managing a portfolio of potential, national and international conference bidding opportunities, as well as providing lead qualification and research support to the Business Development team.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage a small lead portfolio of national and international conference bidding opportunities, focusing on securing local host organisations and assisting in developing sector strategies in accordance with MCB Business Development priorities and strategy
  • Monitor performance against individual and organisational KPIs and business unit plans to meet targets
  • Manage and coordinate research and evaluate national and international leads for the Business Development team and present the most viable opportunities for further development and investigation
  • Cultivate and develop relationships with stakeholders to ensure the delivery of opportunities within the assigned portfolio
  • Ensure accurate and timely data management for all assigned accounts/leads/contacts/traces in the CRM system
  • Work closely with the Club Melbourne Ambassador Program to develop lead opportunities
  • Support the delivery of Business Development client events

Your experience

This is not your typical business development role and to be successful you will need exemplary stakeholder management skills and the ability to develop strong relationships with a variety of people.

You will be genuinely excited about researching leads and seeing them convert into sales opportunities.

Our ideal candidate will relate to the following:

  • Demonstrated experience in a sales or business development role, preferably in business events (highly regarded)
  • Knowledge of the association, academic and/or business events industry (highly regarded)
  • Superior verbal and written communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to plan, prioritise and coordinate own activities
  • Internet and desk research skills with the ability to extract and analyse data
  • Results and outcome focused
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and database applications (CRM)
