Victoria has experienced solid growth in overnight visitation, nights and expenditure across international and domestic markets, ahead of the national average and key competitors New South Wales and Queensland.

Both domestic and international overnight expenditure achieved double digit growth at 12.3% in the year ending September 2017 to reach $13.3 billion and $7.6 billion with a growth rate of 13.3%, respectively.

Regional Victoria experienced double-digit growth in overnight domestic spend ($5.8 billion), visitors (15.6 million) and nights (44.0 million), with all measures ahead of the national average growth rates, driven by both interstate and intrastate markets. Daytrip expenditure to regional Victoria also experienced double digit growth of 10.9% to $3.1 billion, with strong results reported in Victoria’s High Country (+26.7%), Gippsland (17.8%), Geelong and the Bellarine (16.6%), Goldfields (+15.4%), Grampians (+12.6%), Great Ocean Road (+10.4%) and the Murray (+10.1%).

Contributing to the success of these results is the consistent delivery of the Wander Victoria campaign across 2016 and 2017, regional partnership activity and enhancement of regional events such as the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Race and White Night Ballarat.
